William McLaughlin Martinez, 32, was found guilty of murder late Monday afternoon.
Martinez was accused in connection with the brutal massacre of 20-year-old Brian Rankine last year. Mr. Rankine’s mutilated corpse was found in a parking lot just off McField Road in mid-May.
All murder convictions in the Cayman Islands carry a sentence of life imprisonment.
Martinez bowed his head upon hearing the guilty verdict, according to witnesses in the court room.
Grand Court Justice Alexander Henderson told Martinez that he had been given the only sentence available to the court.
