Indoor basketball is in full swing in Cayman.
The Arts and Recreation Center (ARC) hosted the first games last week and matches continue on this week.
The Center, on the Cayman International School grounds at Camana Bay, will see a pair of games tonight.
At 6:30pm Esso Blazers host Shaolin before Mattysports.com take on the Wolves at 7:30pm.
The teams are part of division one of the Cayman Islands Basketball Association Indoor League.
The four squads play their games on Tuesdays at the times stated above and Sundays at 4pm and 6pm.
Division two of the league plays its games on Thursdays at 6:30pm and 7:30pm and on Sundays at 5pm and 6pm.
The first games of that division were played last Thursday. Digicel Broadband continued its winning ways as it took down DBI Warriors 60-32.
This past season Digicel won the division two crown in the national men’s basketball league. The side beat Esso Blazers B in three games in the finals.
In the other indoor game CI Precast looked impressive in its win over Beer trouble 61-43.
The Women’s indoor division saw its first match this past Sunday at 3pm. In action were the Lady Heels and the Esso Blazettes.
Both squads are stalwarts in women’s basketball and very familiar with one another.
The Lady Heels beat the Blazettes in the semi-finals of the national women’s league and split their regular season series. Afterwards the Heels beat Esso in the Women’s Cup.
In addition to those two squads the other team in the women’s division is Mattysports.com. Their first game is this coming Sunday against Esso.
At present the only indoor group yet to get going is the masters segment for players aged 40 and over. It’s unclear whether that league had enough teams to play.
