Weekend attack investigated

Royal Cayman Islands Police detectives are investigating an attack with a baseball bat that occurred in Courts Road, George Town, over the weekend.

The 911 Emergency Communications Centre received a call early Sunday morning from a member of the public who reported that his friend had been hit with a baseball bat as they walked in Courts Road.

Police and medics responded to the scene and the victims told officers that they had been walking in the vicinity of Springfield’s Court when two men dressed in dark clothing approached them from behind and hit one of the victims on the head with the bat. The offenders ran from the location.

The victim suffered a laceration to his head and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The victims told police that the men wore hoods over their faces,

‘This is the second attack in this area in two weeks,’ said Detective Chief Inspector Peter Kennett, who stressed that police are taking both incidents extremely seriously.

‘Anyone with information that could help with the enquiry should contact George Town CID,’ he said.

Police have also been looking into improving safety and security in the area and have requested that additional lighting be installed in dark areas.
