Police investigate WB shooting

Link to Next Level killing probed

Royal Cayman Islands Police officers responded to calls of a shooting Monday night in West Bay that may be related to last week’s killing at the Next Level nightclub.

Detectives confirmed they were looking into the possibility that Thursday’s homicide and Monday’s shooting were connected.

However, police declined to comment on whether the man who was shot at Monday was one of the three men taken into custody by RCIPS officers in connection with Thursday’s deadly shooting inside the Next Level nightclub. The 26-year-old’s name has not been released because he has not been charged with any crimes.

In the latest incident, shots were reported near the intersection of Watercourse Road and Nettie Rivers Lane.

Officers responded shortly after the gunfire was reported around 8pm Monday. However, police said they did not find anyone at the location by the time they arrived.

Later in the evening, RCIPS was able to get in touch with the victim in the shooting who had apparently suffered a graze wound to his arm. The 26-year-old male said he was fired upon as he was driving his car out of Nettie Rivers Lane onto Watercourse Road.

Police urged the man to seek medical care at hospital. He was later taken there, was treated, and released after a short time.

No arrests were immediately reported in Monday’s shooting.

Thursday’s incident at the Next Level claimed the life of 35-year-old Carlo Webster, and injured another man.

Police initially arrested three men in the shooting; two in West Bay Thursday and one in George Town Friday. The two men arrested in West Bay were subsequently released on bail.
