One of Cayman’s best young footballers has gained a top scholarship to a United States college.
Emily Kelly, 15, has been given a scholarship to attend Kimball Union Academy, a private Prep School in New Hampshire, New England.
She is the goalie for their girls team and started school there as a sophomore (Year 10) student last week.
Her mother Rhonda is thrilled. She said: ‘The school is a $43,000 a year boarding school, so needless to say without the scholarship we would not have been able to send her. It is an awesome school with just 320 students, a six to one student to teacher ratio.
‘She was recommended to the school through her goal keeping coach, Paul Campbell who has worked with her in Cayman over the last couple years.
‘He works with many of the New England Prep Schools in an annual soccer camp in the US.
‘Attending this school will not only provide great exposure to US colleges it will give her the experience she needs to really grow as a goalkeeper.
‘Her practice matches were in cold rain the entire time – so she is working on adjusting to the colder weather.’
