The Department of Environmental Health has scheduled basic food handlers’ training courses over the next few months.
Each one-day course will run from 9am to 4pm in the Cayman Islands Environmental Centre at 580 North Sound Road. The $15 registration fee includes literature.
Upon completion of this course, food handlers will have sufficient knowledge to prevent food-borne illness and the spread of disease.
Certification lasts for three years at which point persons wishing to continue as food handlers must renew their training. Anyone needing certification at this time is urged to register as soon as possible.
‘Persons planning to handle food for public consumption during the coming Pirates Week festival should make it a priority to register for one of the earlier courses,’ said the department’s Food Hygiene and Safety Officer, Gideon Simms.
The basic food handlers’ course will be held on 23 September, 7 October, 21 October, 4 November, 18 November and 2 December.
