The music of local musician JR Douglas, affectionately known as JR, has been a regular and popular feature on Rooster FM and Radio Cayman for some time.
Because of JR’s versatility, it’s difficult to describe his musical genre. On his new 14-song CD, titled Tones of Cayman, he mixes reggae, country and soca in a variety of techniques, such as transforming the country song Tired of Being into a catchy, rhythmic reggae. His vocal delivery on the cover Unchained Melody and Spanish lingo on Mentiras confirms his unique talents.
JR plays the guitar, the keyboards and is a technical wiz behind the control board of his very own studio set up in his home. The quality and professionalism of the entire album is most surprising and only proves that local musicians can compete with the international music that floods our airwaves.
With Christmas just around the corner, JR’s new CD would make a great gift for someone locally or abroad. He performs at different venues around the island and can most regularly be heard at the Reef Resort every Friday night.
The CD is now available at Funky Tangs or by calling JR at 926-9997.
