The Cayman Islands and caycompass.com have taken the concept of American Idol to new heights in the form of the Cayman Islands National Song Competition.
Fifteen entries can be heard via www.caycompass.com/competitions. Simply click on the link titled ‘National Song Competition entrants for the People’s Choice Award’, listen and vote.
The entrants are a mixture of genres, from pirate songs to praise songs and other types in between. You can also download the songs onto your mp3 player.
There is $7,000 worth of prize money banked away for the song competition with $3,000 going to first place; $2,000 to second; $1,000 to third; and $1,000 to the People’s Choice Award. Voting for the People’s Choice Award can only be done via the Internet.
Voting at www.caycompass.com will end at midnight on 12 November. All winners will be announced at 8pm during Pirates Week festivities on Friday, 13 November.
As of press time, more than 1,400 people had voted for their favourite song. With your vote you have the power to make someone a $1,000 winner in the Cayman Islands.
You can also text your vote with Digicel by texting 4868 with the number of the song entrant highlighted in red on the website.
You can vote only once per hour.
