Rollins pitches into Ritzy marriage

Cayman’s earthquake may have
rattled many but it didn’t stop Jimmy Rollins from getting married.

The star Philadelphia Phillies
shortstop married fiance Johari Smith last Saturday.

Rollins would end up tying the knot
at the Ritz-Carlton beach in front of a crowd of some 120 people.

The actual ceremony itself took
place on the Great Lawn of the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman. A custom aisle was
used that ran some 100 feet in length.

After the ceremony guests attended the
cocktail reception at the Ritz’s Foyer with the actual reception being held at
the North Sound Pool.

Flowers from over the globe were
used for the wedding including Holland, Costa Rica, Ecuador, California and Thailand.

The cake was over six feet tall,
made up of three flavours and adorned with fresh orchids and white virgina

Most of the crowd were family and
friends and included a slew of Major League Baseball players.

Some of the notable names included
groomsman Bobby Abreu (currently with the Los Angeles Angels) and several
Phillies team-mates including Shane Victorino, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and
Cole Hamels.

Rollins, 31, was here all of last
week and experienced the 5.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Grand Cayman last

Shortly after he reportedly sent out
a text message to team-mates saying he was okay, safe and sound.

Prior to the wedding reports had
surfaced indicating Rollins was staying at “Grand Cayman Beach.”
However only two hotels on West Bay Road have a name similar to that in Grand
Cayman Beach Suites and The Grand Caymanian (now the Ramada).

Calls were made by this reporter to
both establishments to verify Rollins staying there. Both hotels said there
were no guests there by Rollins’ or his girlfriend’s name.

It was not until after the wedding
did it come to light Rollins was in fact staying at the Ritz-Carlton and his
nuptials performed there.

Rollins is coming off his second
straight World Series appearance last November. His Phillies would fail to
defend their title, losing to the New York Yankees in six games.

Meanwhile his new bride, a fitness
instructor, is a former celebrity trainer. The latest reports indicate that she
is part–owner of Balance, an upscale personal–training studio in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania.

The couple met in 2004 and caused
quite a stir recently by posing together in the June 2009 issue of Playboy. The
pair was fully clothed as part of a fashion spread.

Rollins spent all week in Cayman preparing for his wedding.
