Mega T-20 tourism summit planned soon

 

A meeting of high-powered tourism
ministers is to take place next week in Johannesburg.
The tourism minister – T20 – will discuss the theme, ‘Travel and tourism: stimuli
for the global economy’. The conference takes place between 22 and 24 February.

It will also be attended by the
United Nations World Tourism Association and representatives of United Nations
Environment Program, United Nations Social and Economic Commission for Asia, International Labour Organisation and the World
Travel and Tourism Council.

The T20’s last meeting took place
in October 2009 in Kazakhstan
and recommended that tourism could be made more mainstream in its global decision-making.
They said that a focus was needed on building resilience, stimulating growth
and development, and supporting the green economy.

Mega-events

The UN World Tourism Organization
and South Africa Summit on Tourism, Sport and Mega-events will be held from 24
to 26 February.

It takes place concurrent to the
Meetings Africa business tourism exhibition at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa.

This worldwide-focussed events
summit will provide a forum to consider the impact of large-sized events including
sports, culture, exhibitions and entertainment, from a tourism perspective. South Africa
hosts the 2010 World Cup.
