Open captures local focus

Local golf has to keep active to
reach the youth.

Recently the sport launched a new
attempt at reaching out to the young and young at heart.

The Yellow Pages Open took place at
the North Sound Golf Club this month. Some 160 golfers took the links for a leisurely
round of 18-hole golf.

A number of local businesses, such
as Jacques Scott and Lime, took part in the tournament through fielding teams
of four, manning display booths along the course and having products on
display.

One of the more prominent product
displays was a brand new Audi A5 2.0T Quattro by Arch Automotive worth over
$50K.

The tournament raised funds for
both youth golf and the Estella Scott-Roberts Foundation (which is in its
second year). At press time it was not clear exactly how much funds were
raised.

The Yellow Pages Open comes after
the start of the Yellow Pages Junior Golf Camp this year. With the help of
national coach and golf club director Kevin Mumford the camp has attracted
droves of youngsters aged 4-7.
