Viva Puerto Rico

The Puerto Rican girls came and
conquered.

It was NORCECA’s first volleyball
tournament of the year, at Public Beach, on Seven Mile Beach.

On Sunday Yarleen Santiago and
Dariam Acevedo beat the US team of Brooke Langston and Heather Lowe 21-14 and
21-18 to win the women’s title.

“We were confident after all the
hard work we put in and it was a perfect way to see where we are in our
training and assess all the things we need to work on,” said Acevedo.

“Going into the final we decided
that we would stick to the plan and it worked.

“This was our first time in Grand
Cayman and it was so amazing. It is a great island.

“People are so beautiful and
friendly. Other competitors were saying from last year that Cayman is really,
really good and yes, it is beyond words.

“They said it was brilliantly
organised and a beautiful site to play. I feel it would be fantastic for you to
have a World Tour event here. As long as you meet the standards they have, you
shouldn’t have any problems.”
