Teen arrested in West Bay killing

Royal Cayman Islands Police have
arrested a 16-year-old male on suspicion of murder following a police operation
in the West Bay area early Thursday morning.

About 7.20am Thursday, the teenager
was arrested in connection with the shooting death of Marcos Duran.

Mr. Duran, 29, was gunned down in
the stairwell of an apartment on Maliwinas
Way the evening of 11 March.

No charges were filed immediately
against the teenage suspect.

RCIPS detectives said the 11 March
shooting resulted from a robbery attempt.

“This appears to have been a
violent robbery that has tragically gone wrong,” RCIPS Superintendent
Marlon Bodden said. “There’s nothing to suggest this murder was related to
gang activity.”

The victim, who is from Ecuador, was
rushed to hospital after he was shot in the head. He was pronounced dead upon
arrival.

The deadly shooting was one of two
incidents involving gunfire in West
Bay that 11 March night.
Police initially said the two incidents did not appear to be related.

In the other shooting, a
16-year-old male was hit in the leg on Capt Joe’s and Osbert Road.  He survived the attack.
