The Caybrew Sunday League drew to a
close at the weekend with the completion of games from match day 20.
League champions Harry’s FC were
presented with the league trophy after their 5-1 victory against Old Boys and
it was a tangible reward for their efforts over the last seven months of the
campaign, which has entertained right from the kick-off in October.
The league has averaged over four
goals per game and there has not been a lack of talking points, but the season
was characterised by a first half where all teams were taking points off the
others and as a consequence the spot at the top of the table changed hands on
As sides struggled for consistency
it wasn’t until the half way stage after Christmas that in particular Harry’s
FC, MC Devils and Old Boys were able to string together a series of victories
that propelled them to the top of the table and kept them up there.
In the end it was Harry’s who took
the honours, finishing nine points clear. A special mention to Henry Mitchell
of the Old Boys who won the golden boot, with 20 league goals, a strike rate of
one goal per game.
Mitchell finished way ahead of his
nearest challenger, Harry’s FC Ian Kenyon who finished second with 14 goals.
This Sunday sees the completion of fixtures
with the CML Cup final between MC Devils and league winners Harry’s.
Matches between these sides so far
this season have been tight and this final promises to be a real cracker and
should be a fitting spectacle to draw the curtain down on a successful season.
It is at the TE McField Sports
Field in George Town with a 8:30am kick-off.
