Football-wise Wednesday was another
day of World Cup action. Six teams played in South Africa and all generated a

Favourites Spain (who this reporter
thought was a lock to make the round of 16) lost its opening match 1-0 to
Switzerland. Little known Gelson Fernandes got the goal, which came on a
horrific collision in front of the net. Whether one might see it as brutal,
tasteful or lucky the fact is it was a huge surprise.
In fact that decisive goal in the
52 minute is more of a shock than Spain not scoring and more head-scratching
than Fernando Torres not being amongst the starting eleven. At this stage the
doubters of Spain look like geniuses. Aside from that shocking defeat the other
notable result on Wednesday was Chile beating Honduras 1-0.
