Jet Around Cayman entertains in style

A record number of riders
participated in this year’s Jet Around Cayman, as five international riders
from Guadeloupe joined local jet-skiers to test their skills in Cayman waters.

“The fact that the Jet Around
Cayman race is attracting riders from other countries in the world only proves
their interest in the complexity of the Cayman course and the new challenge
that it brings to the table” said Kenny Rankin, event founder and managing
director of Monster Media, which produced the event.

The race included six classes: pro
class, open division, rookie, amateur, female and veteran.

Riders were allowed to overlap in
classes and some did, choosing to race in multiple classes; which offered a
varied amount of cash and prizes, totalling US$20,000 in value.

In addition to money, riders won
gifts courtesy of LIME, Heineken, and Sports Supply/Kawasaki. The official
winners will be announced in the Monday, 21 June edition of Caymanian Compass.

On the beach, the Pure Health
‘Spike-N-Splash’ 3-on-3 co-ed volleyball tournament, organised by the Cayman
Islands Volleyball Association, was also a huge success.

There were a total of 10 teams
participating: four in the amateur division, and six in the pro. Amateur
winners took home a case of Heineken each, and pro winners took home vouchers
form Cayman Airways, Heineken beach towels and shirts, Gift certificates to
Pure Health, great swag from LIME, and volleyballs from Sports Supply.

Beach-goers also had the
opportunity to meet the Jet Around Cayman calendar girls who signed copies of
the 2010 Jet Around Cayman calendar.

The Caymanian Compass was one of
Jet Around Cayman’s sponsors, explained Marketing Supervisor Anne Mason.

“It’s a great event for the island
to have every year, especially with the international riders who come down,”
she said.

Butterfield provided a Copa
Cabana-style riders and sponsors lounge. The guests enjoyed an open beverage
bar, along with a special entrance that made this lounge an exclusive venue to
enjoy the race.

LIME hosted a bikini contest, best
dancer contest, and raffle giveaway, while Home Gas provided samples of jerk
chicken and gave away a heavy cast-iron dual burner propane cook-top.

“The increase in international
riders is phenomenal, it takes the race to the next level,” said Mr. Rankin. “I
want to congratulate all of the winners and thank all of the riders and
sponsors for participating and making Jet Around Cayman 2010 a great event, see
you next year!”
