Bolt no show in India

Usain
Bolt’s coach has confirmed that the double Olympic and world sprint champion
will not be competing at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in October.

The
Jamaican, who also missed the 2006 Games through injury, will be absent from this
year’s event in India to enable him to continue his build-up for the London
2012 Olympics. Glen Mills said: “Bolt made it known long ago that he is not
going to the Commonwealth Games.”

The
world’s fastest man at 100 and 200 metres will also miss out on this weekend’s
Jamaica National Championships – although his coach insists it has nothing to
do with a recent Achilles problem. “He was never down to run at trials,” Mills
said.

Meanwhile,
former world record holder Asafa Powell and world silver medallist Tyson Gay
will meet for the first time this season over 100 metres at the Diamond League
meeting in Gateshead on 10 July.

Gay,
the second-fastest man in the world behind record holder Bolt, has changed his
distance from the 200m for the
Gateshead meeting.
