Scimone slices pizza rivals apart

The Domino’s Pizza Women’s League
gave some tasty scores at the Ed Bush stadium on Saturday.

Hammerheads Lady Sharks started the
season off impressively with a resounding 50-6 victory over Chiro Spa.
Hammerheads, who were finalists last year, completely dominated Chiro Spa in
every aspect of the game. For the offense Bobeth O’Garro threw three touchdown
passes while completing 8 of 16 passes. Christiania McLean caught two touchdown
passes while Sue Nixon and Scimone Campbell each had one. Campbell also had two interceptions for the
defence, one of which she ran back for a touchdown. Her performance earned her
Player of the Week in the women’s division. Lolitta Hanna also had an
interception for a touchdown, as did Sue Nixon.

Ellen Downey chipped in with four
tackles while throwing for a touchdown as well.

For Chiro Spa it was a rough
opening day. The Jaguars have some talent on the roster but things did not
click for them on this day.

Jessica Cribb completed only 10 of
20 passes and had five interceptions to go along with her one touchdown toss.
Denise Moore-Williams caught the lone score and Lisa Juenza helped out on
defense with six tackles. Hammerheads take on Walkers next in the game of the
week while Chiro Spa meet Appleby’s.

Lone Star Jagar Monsters kicked off
their initial campaign in the league with a 21-7 win over Appleby’s. The
Monsters, who use a two quarterback set, were led by Ali Amos who completed 5
of 6 passes with two touchdown tosses and an interception. Michelle McTaggart
also tossed a touchdown pass and caught two of her own. Keisha Solomon caught
the other scoring toss. For the defence, Amos had two tackles and an
interception while Solomon chipped in with an interception as well. Lone Star
Jagar Monsters take on Zulu’s next.

For Appleby’s, a new franchise, it
was a rough welcome to the league. Carrie Bennett was the workhorse for
Appleby’s, catching a touchdown pass while helping out on the defensive side
with two tackles and an interception. Tia Whittaker was 7 of 8 in the passing
department with an interception as well as the touchdown toss. Shinette Rhoden
also had a strong game with three tackles. Appleby’s look to record their first
victory when they take on Chiro Spa next.

Champions Walker’s Wonders started the defence of their
title with a hard-fought 14-8 win over Ace Paint and Décor. It was a close game
all the way and Walkers showed their class eking out the victory. Jordana
Clarke went 9 of 13 in the passing department with two touchdown passes and two
interceptions. Isatou Sey caught four passes for Walkers, one for a score, and
Rachelle Peterson had the other scoring catch. Sey also had a good game on the
defensive side of the ball with two tackles, while Krishan Welcome helped out
with an interception.

For Ace Paints and Décor, Lisa
Malice had a strong game at the helm going 13 of 26 in the passing department
with a touchdown toss and an interception. Betsy Smith had six receptions for
Ace, while Christina Hefner hauled in the lone scoring catch. Malice and
Janique Samson led the defense with an interception each. Ace take on Andro
next week while Walkers have a tough encounter with Hammerheads.

In the most entertaining of the
ladies games, Zulu’s Warriors edged Andro Electric 19-12. Dionne Whittaker led
the way for Zulu’s, throwing three touchdown passes completing 14 of 27 passes
with three interceptions. Whittaker also helped out on the defensive side with
five tackles. Jahzenia Enaaida Thomas had six receptions, two for touchdowns,
while Shakeina Bush caught the other scoring toss. Margo Whittaker led the
defence with a tackle, sack and an interception. Jennifer La Grande chipped in
with three tackles as well. Zulu’s continue their season with an encounter with
Lone Star next.
