Footballers from Academy Sports
Club have plenty to be proud of after winning the warm-up weekend tournament
last week in Minneapolis and battling through 17 games to finish second overall
in the Under-11 tournament of the Schwan USA Cup.
The Under-12s did well too. Academy
Under-11s did brilliantly to get to the final where teams from many countries
They were undefeated in 16 games
going into the final. There were 34 teams in the Under-11 age group from all
over USA, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rico and Brazil.
Academy faced a side from Chicago
in the final and played hard but lost 3-0. Their hearts were willing, but all
the previous games caught up with them and their little legs against a side
that had played only seven games.
They flew home on Sunday and were
greeted by a cheering group of parents and supporters.
Minister of Sport Mark Scotland
said: “Congratulations to the players, coaches, parents and everyone that
supported the team.”
