A weekend for bargain sales

Anyone looking for a good bargain
would have been right at home at the island500.com garage sale in the Grand
Harbour parking lot last Saturday — a good day for both buyers and sellers.

Around 30-plus vendors were selling
items ranging from scuba gear to Christmas ornaments and everything in between.
With hundreds of shoppers coming to browse the stalls, organisers said that the
event was a success and will surely be held in the future. The $25 participation
fee from vendors went to a great cause, the National Council of Voluntary
Organisations. Organisers raised $2,650 from both the garage sale event and the
Jerk Festival that followed.

However, the island500.com garage
sale was not the only sale going on in Cayman last Saturday.

About a minute down the road at the
Lion’s Community Centre, the Flea Market Expo was in full swing. Items
including clothing, jewellery and electronics were being sold by numerous
vendors. The weekend long event started at 6am Saturday and continued until 6pm
Sunday. This sale had a great turnout as well, giving vendors an excellent
opportunity to showcase their wares.

Finally, St Matthew’s University’s
School of Veterinarian Medicine also held a garage sale and car boot sale in
the parking lot of Regatta on West Bay Road.
