A restaurant robbery where the
suspect was chased off by a hurled spoon started a busy few days for the Royal
Cayman Islands Police Service.
Also investigated by police this
weekend were a double stabbing, which was the apparent result of a bar
argument, and a home invasion robbery in the Swamp area of George Town.
There was no apparent connection
between any of the crimes.
In the first major crime reported
to the RCIPS over the weekend, a customer inside Liberty’s Restaurant in West
Bay was robbed Friday night by an armed suspect.
Police said the robber then ran off
after an attendant inside the kitchen of the restaurant threw a spoon at him.
The bizarre incident occurred
around 10pm Friday, when a masked man who appeared to be carrying a handgun
entered Liberty’s, ran up to the counter, and grabbed money from a woman who
was paying her bill at the time.
Police said the masked man then
went into the kitchen and demanded money from a restaurant worker – who chucked
a spoon at him.
After that, the suspect ran off
toward Hell Road on foot. No arrests had been reported by press time.
No one was hurt in the robbery and
no shots were fired.
The suspect was described as short,
between 5’5” and 5’6” and slim with a dark complexion. He was wearing a red
shirt, long jeans and wore a bandana over his face.

Husband and wife stabbed
Police said a husband and wife were
both stabbed during an attack over the weekend in George Town. The incident
left both victims hospitalised, but was not immediately reported by police.
Shortly before 1am Saturday, Royal
Cayman Islands Police said the couple became involved in a verbal fight with a
group of men in the car park of the Helium Bar on Shedden Road.
Police said the couple left the bar
with the intention of calling into George Town police to report the incident.
As they stopped their vehicle on
Elgin Avenue, police said the husband and wife were approached by a man whom
they recognized as having fought with them earlier.
Police said the man attacked the
couple, stabbing both the man and woman, and ran off toward town centre. Both
the man and the woman were stabbed in the stomach.
The victims made it to George Town
police station and were subsequently taken by ambulance to the Cayman Islands
The woman, 27, was released
following treatment. Her husband, 28, remained in hospital in stable condition
at press time.
No arrests were immediately
reported. The suspect was described as 6 feet tall, dark brown complexion with
a braided hair style.

A 53-year-old woman was robbed
inside her home in the area of George Town known as ‘Swamp’ late Sunday night.
Just before midnight on Sunday, 22
August, RCIPS officers said two masked men armed with handguns entered a
residence on Brushy Avenue.
Police said the two threatened the
lone female occupant of the house and demanded money. They then took her into
the bathroom and searched the house, grabbing a safe that contained personal

and the woman was not hurt.
One suspect is described as 5 ’7’’
with a dark complexion and slim build. The other was about 6’ and also of dark
complexion and slim build.
