Mixed martial arts fans in the
Cayman Islands will get another treat from a visiting UFC star because former
two-time heavyweight champion Frank Mir is coming here in October.
Local karate instructor Bob Daigle
is bringing Mir over for a couple of clinics and to meet MMA enthusiasts, the
same way he did with Kenny Florian in June.
Mir said from his Suffer gym in Las
Vegas: “I’m looking forward to coming to the Cayman Islands. It’s a trip to a
very beautiful island. Obviously, I can tell that Bob, our UFC representative
there, is extremely friendly. I’ll be in Grand Cayman with my family.
Hopefully, I can introduce to Cayman what mixed martial arts is all about, our
culture and how we carry ourselves.”
Daigle said: “Well we certainly
look forward to learning from one of the best in the world in Brazilian
jiujitsu and Muay Thai and look forward to having you and your wife in the
Mir made the announcement via a
taped interview with Daigle which was aired at the Aqua Beach Bar in West Bay
Road on Saturday during UFC 118. Florian fought on the bill in Boston but lost
by unanimous points decision to Frankie Edgar.
