Inspiration passes Cayman

The Carnival Inspiration missed a
port call to Grand Cayman on Wednesday, 8 September, after a passenger took
ill.

The 2,600-passenger cruise ship had
been set to berth as part of a five-day Western Caribbean itinerary, which
departed from Tampa, Florida, on Monday, 6 September. It was due to visit
Cozumel on Thursday, 9 September, before returning to Tampa on 11 September.

Jennifer de la Cruz, director of
public relations at Carnival Cruise Lines, confirmed that the itinerary had
altered.

“We had a guest on board who
experienced a serious medical emergency. We were not able to conduct an
evacuation via helicopter and therefore had to deviate to Key West to disembark
the guest.

“The stop in Key West was converted
into a port of call visit in place of Grand Cayman because the course deviation
meant that we were not going to be able to get to Cayman in time. The ship [was
able to] make its regularly scheduled call in Cozumel,” she told the Compass.

The missed call also led to the
cancellation of two weddings that were due to happen on-island, said wedding
planner and celebrant Joy Basdeo.

“We had two cancellations
because of the ship bypassing Cayman due to what we heard was a medical
emergency so we missed a wedding and a vow renewal. As is the case when the
disruption is not our clients’ fault we will refund them their deposit.”
