Samantha Widmer, Miss Earth Cayman Islands

Twenty-three-year-old Samantha
Widmer has been chosen to represent Cayman Islands in the Miss Earth pageant in
Vietnam, on 4 December, 2010.

Miss Widmer was selected by the
directors of N’Vogue Productions/Miss Earth Cayman Islands committee and was formally
presented on 28 August at the Grand Cayman Beach Suites. Miss Earth Cayman
Islands 2006, Stephanie Espeut, introduced the 2010 winner.

Miss Earth is an annual
international showcase promoting environmental awareness.

The Miss Earth event is primarily
looking for young women who will work to promote the preservation of the
planet.

Miss Widmer will be the goodwill
ambassador and spokesperson for the Cayman Islands, particularly its
environmental and tourism industries. In fulfilling the ideals of ‘beauties
with a cause’, she will work on environmental projects and do her best to
educate fellow Caymanians by providing a better understanding of the need for
greater responsibility in preserving the environment, according to the
organisers.

Miss Widmer is a senior accountant
at Ernst & Young.  She earned her
undergraduate degree majoring in accounting at Elon University in North Carolina
and is making preparations to take the CPA exams. An avid sportswoman, Miss
Widmer won the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships in July, was a bronze medallist
at the Island Games in Finland in 2009 as a member of the Cayman National Golf
Team, and is a seasoned diver.

Michael Salmon of Creative Fitness
is sponsoring Miss Widmer, with other sponsorship from Westar TV, among others.
