Police officer’s charge sent to Grand Court

Suspended police officer Rabe
Welcome was committed to stand trial in Grand Court following a preliminary
inquiry that ended late Tuesday.

Magistrate Grace Donalds found
there was a case for him to answer on a charge of wounding.

For his co-defendant, suspended
police officer Adrian Clarke, she found there was no case to answer and the
charge against him was dismissed.

The two men were accused of
wounding Adolphus Myrie, 31, in the early hours of 17 June, 2009, outside On
The Run Service Station on Shamrock Road (also referred to as Red Bay Esso).

The preliminary inquiry began in
January and went part-heard over several dates.

Officer Clarke was represented by
Attorney John Meghoo.

Attorney Waide Da Costa represented
Officer Welcome, while Crown Counsel Kenneth Ferguson presented evidence on behalf
of the Prosecution.

The defendant was directed to
appear at the opening of the next Grand Court session, which is set for
Wednesday, 6 October.
