Power outages affected a large area
of South Sound from as far west as Walker’s Road to Patrick’s Island on Monday,
according to the Caribbean Utilities Company.
Although the CUC wasn’t immediately
certain on the exact cause of the outage, spokesman Neil Murray said the
outages could possibly have been from a chain reaction of feeders going down.
“One feeder goes out, then
another,” he said.
Mr. Murray added that areas around
George Hicks High School were also left without power.
The CUC checked the South Sound
substation to find the cause.
“We are doing all the necessary
checks to ensure recovery to the South Sound area,” he said.
Unconfirmed reports said that power
outages affected parts of Crewe Road as well.
Power returned to those parts of
George Town within the hour.
