Local roller hockey goes into its third week of matches on Tuesday 19 October. Although the season is young a familiar name is already near the top of the standings.
The Budget Beavers have had a solid start to the 2010 Logic Roller Hockey League.
Though the margin of victory has been tight, the statistical production has been right on target. From leading scorer Mark Missal to consistent offensive threat Chris Moser, Budget are among the best squads on paper.
Toss in the club boasting the top goalie in Ryan Vanderwal (39 saves and a 84.6 save percentage) and the side has every chance of being a title favourite by mid-season.
An interesting development so far is the offensive growth of Rob Leadbetter. One of the unheralded workhorses on the side for years, Leadbetter is rising up the scoring sheet.
Heading into Tuesday’s showdown with the Cayman Destination Management Services Islanders (at 9pm at Kings), Leadbetter is in the top ten in scoring with three points. Then again with last year’s top scorer Tim McDonald not in the picture, everyone has to step up.
Outside of Budget looking to pad its standing against the Islanders, Tuesday offers another interesting match.
Defending champs the Barracudas (armed with talents like Fareed Hosein) look to keep winning against Dan Etherington and the High Rollers at 8pm.
