All footballers treasure every goal
they scored, especially when it’s a hat-trick and that should have been the
case for Scholars International Erick Brown who hit three against Elite on
Sunday. Only problem was Elite put five past Scholars so Brown’s achievement
was a hollow one, he said.
The match at the TE McField Annex
promised to be an entertaining affair between Scholars, the reigning Premier
League champs, against a side that was blazing two years ago but wobbled
form-wise last season.
Elite have started the season well
and even put seven past Bodden Town the previous week, including five by Alex
Jairo Sanchez burst through to
score early in the game and Gabriel Godet put Elite two up.
Brown scrambled his first home from
a corner for Scholars before Belcher made it 3-1 before the break. From the
kick off for the second half Dwight ‘Gaza’ Wright weaved through the Scholars defence
for a fantastic score with his right foot for a change. Brown pulled one back
for Scholars before Derrin Ebanks scored Elite’s fifth. Brown completed his
hat-trick but it was Scholars’ second defeat in three games.
In the earlier match, Future
captain Mark Ebanks scored from a wonderful volley against the run of play
against George Town in the first half. George Town’s Tex Whitelocke struck for
the third consecutive match for the equaliser in the second half. George Town
had most of the possession throughout but just could not break down the solid,
well organised Future defence who despite their youth play like seasoned pros.
At the Ed Bush Stadium in West Bay, newcomers East End got their first victory
in the Cayman Islands Football Association Premier League by beating Tigers 2-1
thanks to two strikes by Dominic Pearson. Jose Luis Bush scored for Tigers.
Bodden Town beat Roma also 2-1 in the second game there thanks to goals by
Arvid Harris and Fabian Gall. Damallay Howelle got Roma’s goal.
In the CIFA Foster’s First Division
games played on Saturday Academy SC beat Scholars International B 5-0, Bodden
Town B beat George Town B 3-0 and North Side defeated former Premier League
team Sunset 3-1.
