The young person charged in
connection with the robbery of Mostyn’s service station in Bodden Town and a
shooting incident the same night has pleaded not guilty to all charges and will
be tried starting 6 December.
The teen, who cannot be
named because he is under 17, appeared before Justice Algernon Smith on Friday.
Defence Attorney Ben Tonner
advised that his client was ready to enter pleas to the six charges against
him. He then raised the question of election and the judge asked the boy if he
wanted to be tried by a judge and jury or a judge alone. “Judge alone,” was the
reply.
The first charge against him
is robbery. He is accused of stealing a quantity of cash from Mostyn’s Esso in Bodden Town
on 11 June this year and putting staff in fear in order to do so.
He is further charged with
possession of an unlicensed firearm, identified as a Remington 12-gauge
shotgun.
A charge of attempted murder
relates to the allegation that the teen attempted unlawfully to cause the death
of two police officers that night in the area of Northward Road. A charge of unlawful use
of a firearm states that he discharged the firearm at the two officers.
Two other charges allege
possession of the shotgun and two shotgun rounds at Beach Bay Road.
Crown Counsel Kenneth
Ferguson agreed to a hearing in chambers on 19 November, set to ensure that
matters are ready for the trial date.
Justice Smith
continued the teen’s remand in
custody.
