FCIB launches UCCI scholarship

FirstCaribbean International Bank
is providing funds for a new financial sector scholarship for students pursuing
a business degree at the University College of the Cayman Islands.

“We are pleased to gain the help
and support of FirstCaribbean International Bank, establishing a much-valued
and enormously important fund,” said UCCI President Roy Bodden.  “This not only helps build UCCI, but, more
importantly, secures and encourages the ongoing education of students and the
development of our business community.”

The funding will help students
complete the Cayman banking certificate course or the first two years of UCCI’s
four-year business degree programme.

“We recognise that the benefits of
this initiative are far reaching across the organisation and the broader
community in general, as it highlights FirstCaribbean International Bank’s
commitment to corporate social responsibility and our support of continued
education for young Caymanians at a local level,” said FCIB’s Tom Crawford.

Students seeking funding from the
programme will apply to UCCI.  Students
will also meet with the four-member FCIB scholarship committee: Chief
Compliance Officer Anna McLean, Wealth Manager Lynne Whittaker, Head of
Corporate Banking Al Aaron and Head of Human Resources Pat Ramoon.

The panel will work with UCCI
administrators, adjudicating submissions and granting funds to applicants.

“FirstCaribbean Bank International
sees this as an ideal time… to focus on the critical area of continuing
education within the financial sector and particularly as it applies to those
local students who are unable to go overseas to continue their studies,” Mr.
Crawford said.
