Offshore law firm Harneys has hired
to two new lawyers to support its litigation and investment funds practices,
the firm said in a statement.
Philipp Neumann has joined the
firm’s investment funds department in the British Virgin Islands while James
Noble is now part of the litigation and insolvency team in the Cayman Islands.
Mr. Neumann advises on all aspects
of the formation and restructuring of investment fund vehicles in the BVI. He
has extensive experience with alternative investment structures and also
advised on cross-border corporate tax planning. The multilingual lawyer was
educated in Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom. Ross Munro, the head of BVI
Investment Funds, said he is delighted to have him join the department and
noted that Neumann’s French, German and Spanish language skills will also be
very useful to a number of the firm’s clients.
“Mr. Neumann brings with him a
number of years experience working with investment funds in the BVI and
elsewhere,” Mr. Munro said. “It is a welcome addition to the talent we already
have within the department and confirmation of our commitment to provide
clients with the best possible service, which invariably begins with recruiting
the most qualified candidates.”
Australian-educated James Noble
specialises in hedge fund litigation and has broad experience in domestic and
international disputes, particularly in the areas of banking and financial
services. He also has extensive experience advising clients on litigation
funding, both in Australia and in the United Kingdom.
In the ten years since first being
admitted to the Bar, Mr. Noble has also authored several articles, many of
which have appeared in notable publications.
Litigation and insolvency partner
Sarah Dobbyn said “Mr. Noble’s significant experience in banking and financial
services litigation is a welcome addition to the existing insolvency, trust and
general litigation skills of the Harneys’ Cayman litigation team.” Harneys is
expecting further growth in its Cayman practice in the near future.
According to Ms. Dobbyn, “Mr.
Noble’s understanding of derivatives, swaps and other specialist financial
products will enhance the calibre of advice we can provide to our clients in
contentious banking and financial services matters.” She added that Mr. Noble
is a strong advocate who has appeared regularly before the courts in Australia
and in the United Kingdom.
The addition of the two lawyers is
part of the ongoing expansion of Harneys, the firm says, as it caters to a
growing global client base. The new hires bring the number of lawyers within
the firm to 73, 12 of whom have joined Harneys since January this year. The new
hires also come against the backdrop of the imminent opening of Harneys’ office
in Uruguay, the firm said.
