An armed man held up MoneyGram in
the Meringue Town Mini-mart in George Town on Thursday evening.
This
is the second armed robbery to be carried out in George Town in two days. Three
armed men robbed the Butterfield Bank at the Compass Centre on Wednesday
morning and fired a shot into the ceiling of the bank before making off with
cash. Police have arrested a 17-year-old in connection with that robbery.
The
lone robber of MoneyGram at 7.38pm on Thursday night was reportedly armed with
a handgun. He demanded cash and then ran off on foot towards Walkers Road.
Police
described the robber as “a young male, approximately 5ft 6in tall, wearing a
black long-sleeved shirt, dark black gloves, blue jeans and black shoes. He
spoke with a Caymanian accent.”
“This
was a frightening and disturbing incident for the cashier who was threatened
with a handgun in order to obtain cash,” a police spokesman said.
An
undisclosed amount of money was taken.
Police
are appealing for any witnesses or information to George Town CID on 949-4222
or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477(TIPS)

I’m looking forward to moving back to Toronto where it’s safe.
Please recognize that crime is present in every developed nation and in every city, not just Cayman so to run away would be futile. Criminals are encouraged by other criminals not being captured; they feel they too will not be brought to justice.
Until police start to increase their conviction rates and are shown they will be caught without a doubt, things will continue this way.
