Pirates Week 2010 roundup

Pirates Week 2010 was received extremely well by attendees, and it can go from strength to strength next year, according to festival director Bernie Bush.

“There was very positive feedback from all sectors of the community, and amongst many great times three things stood out. The opening night fireworks, the positive feedback for the Red Bull stunt biker, Aaron Colton, and the winner of the snapper cook-off, Brittany Rose Bodden .

“The floats from the districts improved this year and we’re going to work even closer with the districts to get them going. North Side and Bodden Town really improved a lot and their district days were awesome. We now look forward to the Brac weekend

[this weekend],

which will be the icing on the cake. We are going to step up another notch and can look forward to bigger and better stuff next year, I was very, very pleased with the attendance.”

Getting stronger

To put together a complex event like Cayman’s National Festival requires input from many different companies, organisations and people, something that Mr. Bush is keen to acknowledge.

“I have to say a very special thank you to the Hard Rock Cafe and to Breezes – they were the only two companies to step up to the mic and help us with the fireworks; if it’s going to continue to be in Hog Sty Bay other companies will have to come on board early in the year or I’m moving it.

“Pirates Week is getting stronger. Amongst a lot of sponsors and supporters I’d like to say a special thank you to Cayman Free Press and all its staff, Department of Tourism, who were a big, big help, Radio Cayman, Digicel, Red Bull and Cayman Airways who really worked closely with us. These people really went the extra mile as did the staff at the office, the committee and all the district committees who work for no thanks and no pay – they all made it possible and we know we are going to make it better next year.”
