The Cayman Islands Court of Appeal
this morning affirmed the convictions and sentences of the two men found guilty
of murdering Estella Scott Roberts in October 2008.
Court president Sir John Chadwick
said attorneys for Kirkland Henry and Larry Ricketts had advanced every point
that could be advanced. After considering all the arguments, he concluded, the
court found no grounds for allowing the appeal by either man. Reasons for the
decision will be put in writing.
Henry had admitted abduction, rape
and robbery, but said he withdrew from the enterprise when the other man killed
their victim. Ricketts had a defence of alibi, saying he was not the other man.
But he signed an interview statement that amounted almost to a full confession.
Solicitor General Cheryll Richards
argued during the trial and at the appeal that there was other evidence against
Ricketts besides his signed interview.
The only sentence for murder in
Cayman is imprisonment for life.

Compass.
