International law firm Mourant Ozannes has expanded its litigation team in the Cayman Islands with the appointments of Senior Associate Tim Richards and Associate Nicholas Fox.
Tim Richards, a litigation specialist, joined Mourant Ozannes in autumn 2010 from CMS Cameron McKenna in London. With considerable experience in handling a wide variety of major cross border litigation and arbitration business, Mr. Richards has represented a wide variety of blue chip clients including major international banks, hedge funds, public sector corporations and the UK national lottery.
Recently, Mr. Richards was seconded to the CMS insurance litigation and energy litigation teams to run major disputes. After graduating from Oxford University, he trained and qualified as a solicitor with CMS Cameron McKenna LLP in 1999. He was admitted as a Cayman Islands attorney in 2010.
“I have joined Mourant in the Cayman Islands at an exciting time following the merger with Ozannes and with the litigation team developing and expanding. I am very much looking forward to the challenges of dealing with the complex and high value litigation that the firm deals with in Cayman,” Mr. Richards said.
Nicholas Fox, who joined Mourant Ozannes earlier in 2010, brings expertise in commercial law, with an emphasis on funds-related insolvency and restructuring work to the litigation practice, the firm said. Prior to arriving at the firm, Mr. Fox worked in the Insolvency and Litigation department of Harney Westwood & Riegels, first in the British Virgin Islands and most recently Cayman, after having practised as a barrister in London for five years.
Having obtained a law degree at Oxford University, he was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2003, and was admitted as an Attorney at Law in the British Virgin Islands in 2008 and in the Cayman Islands in 2009.
“These are very interesting and demanding times for anyone litigating in the Cayman Islands,” Mr. Fox noted, “and I am very happy to have joined such a strong team of capable and experienced lawyers, who are working on some of the biggest and most challenging cases in the jurisdiction.”
Peter Hayden, partner and head of litigation, commented on the expansion to his team, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to add Tim and Nicholas to our growing litigation team. Their extensive knowledge and specific areas of expertise will be hugely valuable as we expand our litigation practice in Cayman.”
Neal Lomax, Managing Partner of the Cayman Islands office of Mourant Ozannes, added: “These two hires are a further demonstration of the long term commitment the firm has to building its presence in the jurisdiction.”
