Offshore legal, fiduciary and administration services provider Appleby was named Offshore Law Firm of the Year at the Legal Week British Legal Awards held in London on 2 December.
Carlos de Serpa Pimentel, Appleby partner and head of Private Client and Trusts in the Cayman office, collected the award. The ceremony, held at Old Billingsgate Market, was attended by over 1,000 top international lawyers.
Appleby also won The Lawyer’s Offshore Law Firm of the Year Award in June.
The Legal Week award is presented to the firm that has demonstrated not only that it is a leader in the offshore market, but also that it has made significant progress over the past 12-18 months, according to the organisers. Appleby was able to demonstrate legal expertise, innovation, strong strategic vision, and high levels of client care and employee development, the law firm said in a statement. Appleby is also committed to corporate social responsibility projects across the jurisdictions in which it is based.
In 2009 Appleby opened offices in the Seychelles and Bahrain and leading Isle of Man law firm Dickinson Cruickshank joined the Appleby Group. In March this year Appleby opened its Guernsey office.
In 2009/10 the firm has added five lateral partners, made six internal partner promotions and 11 promotions to Counsel to support growth across the Appleby Group. Most recently, the Group appointed Mike Ellis to the newly created role of General Counsel to consolidate the strategic growth of the firm worldwide.
Commenting on the award Cayman Office Managing Partner, Huw Moses said: “It has been our strategic goal to become the world’s leading provider of offshore legal and fiduciary services and we are pleased that our efforts have been recognised by Legal Week and The Lawyer.
