Local netball is leaping back onto Cayman’s sports scene this weekend.
The Cayman Islands Netball Association Adult Open Netball League starts this Saturday 8 January. The netball courts at Truman Bodden Sports Complex are slated to host matches into early April.
The first pair of matches see Rising Stars A taking on Unity A while All Stars B faces Roma B. Both games are at 6.30pm. In all about nine teams are registered for this year’s national women’s league.
Most eyes will be on Roma in the early stages. The yellow and green warriors are the defending champions after taking down the All Stars netball club in last year’s A division final. With B team also entered in this year’s competition it will be interesting to see if the likes of Kay Copeland, Sudan Powell and Paula Hughes can have two Roma squads emerge champions.
Netball association member Norma Ferryman states she is expecting a good competition and offers words of encouragement for the players.
“I hope they are all ready to play in the spirit of true sportsmanship and ready to enjoy the game,” Ferryman said. “We can all enjoy the games if you play hard and aim to win. Just remember only one team can win so continue to work towards more wins and keep your spirits high.”
