Kickball running afoul

Kickball lovers will have to wait
awhile to get their shots in.

The 2011 Cayman Islands Humane
Society Kickball Fundraiser tournament has been postponed. Originally planned
for last Saturday 29 January at the Field of Dreams baseball facility, a new
date has not been given for the competition.

Cayman Sports Authority, a division
of Kings Sports Centre, is the new organizing group for the event. In a
statement on their website the entity states issues beyond their control has
led to the delay. The statement reads: “Due to unforeseen circumstances the
2011 kickball tournament has been postponed until further notice.”

2011 would mark the third year of
the competition’s existence. Started by former Cayman resident Patrick Bourque,
the event usually raises around CI$10,000 for the Cayman Islands Humane Society
and the Sunset Women’s Football Club.

The tournament, which normally
happens over the course of a day, features a hybrid sport which has been a childhood
favourite for many Cayman residents. Also known as soccer-baseball, kickball features
the same rules as in baseball with the big difference being one must kick a
large rubber ball rather than hit a baseball with a bat.
