Elite Sporting Club may have the league title in sight but they are not letting up despite a massive 12 point gap at the top. Elite coach Greg Ebanks won’t allow any slip ups, which saw them leak points two years ago when they won the league but struggled with their form in their last few games.
In the Cayman Islands Football Association Premier League they lead second placed Scholars International with 35 points to 23. After a rocky start in the early stages of the competition, George Town have jumped into third position with 21 points.
Bodden Town are fourth with 18, three by Roma United who started well but have fallen away. Future and Tigers are locked on 13 points each while East End United are struggling at the bottom with nine points.
Elite’s Alex Belcher leads the goal scorers in the league with 12. Former national striker Erickson Brown of Scholars International follows with ten, Elite’s Dwayne ‘Gaza’ Wright and Jairo Sanchez have scored nine apiece, along with Tigers’ Nahun Rodriquez and George Town’s Tex Whitelocke. Bodden Town’s Arvid Harris has eight, Elite’s Derrin Ebanks has hit six, while East End’s Dominique Pearson and George Town’s Fabian Malcolm have five goals each.
This Sunday 6 February, Elite meet George Town at 5pm at the TE McField Annex and at 7pm Tigers take on Roma. Scholars International travel to East End to face Bodden Town at the Donovan Rankin Playing Field at 5pm, while East End host Future at 7pm.
The following Sunday, 13 February, the league takes another break for the second leg of the semi-finals of the CIFA Digicel Cup competition. Last Sunday Roma United beat East End 2-1 in a tough game at the TE McField Annex. Scholars beat defending champions George Town 1-0.
