KPMG collect on bounty

KPMG have been a force in co-ed
softball for some time. So far this year the company has been a mixed bag on
the field.

On one hand its A team is holding
its own with a 2-1 record in the A league of the Winter Adult Co-ed Softball
League. Put on by the Cayman Islands Little League, the programme has numerous
local companies like KPMG involved.

Meanwhile its B league squad, the
KPMG Bounty Hunters, are languishing near the bottom of the standings. For
captain Joanna Mackay, 27, the lack of success is unusual. Over the last four
seasons the squad has been good enough to place in the top three and advance
deep in the playoffs.

Adding insult to injury for the
Bounty Hunters was a recent loss at the hands of their A league counterparts.
KPMG A beat the Bounty Hunters 16-14 at the Field of Dreams facility in George
Town. Tax Manager at KPMG Chris Willemse was at the match and states the
contest was an interesting one.

“The long-awaited battle of the
KPMG sides took place under sunny skies,” Willemse said. “After a week of
friendly trash talking it was time for the Bounty Hunters to step up and prove
they had the goods to play with the “big guys.” The character and mettle of the
A team was put to a serious test with some lively batting and base running by
the Bounty Hunters who were out to win and had a small lead in the fifth
inning. However a defensive collapse in the bottom of the fifth led to the
final score of 16-14.

“In a show of good sportsmanship,
the A team captain Doug Harrell proclaimed pizza for all and team members spent
a couple hours enjoying some beverages and food.”

Both squads are in action this
week. KPMG A actually play twice with their first match against the Coors Light
Chuggers yesterday while the second contest is on Wednesday against KM Ltd at
8.15pm. The Bounty Hunters go to bat on Tuesday at 8.15pm against B league
rivals the Deloitte Tigers.

There a number of other interesting
match-ups this week. The PriceWaterhouseCoopers Scorpions will look for their
first win of the season against The Security Centre at 8.15pm on Tuesday.
Meanwhile reigning A league champions Kirk Freeport hosts Island Taste Hot
Stuff on Thursday at 8.15pm.
