In the world of local netball the surprise of the season thus far is Rising Stars netball club. One of its squads will be put to the test on Thursday 24 February against the defending champions.
The netball courts at Truman Bodden Sports Complex host the match at 6.30pm. Rising Stars B takes on Roma A, the reigning Cayman Islands Netball Association open league winners.
Rising Stars have some positives after starting the season with a .500 record.
The offence has looked good behind young players like Alexis Carias and Shanai Allen. Roma meanwhile bring in a relentless defence featuring lots of hustle plays from Carrie Barnett and Sudan Powell.
They have started the campaign with a string of tense matches against their B side, Maples and Calder and Unity B.
As a club, Rising Stars’ morale is high with the unbeaten start of the A team (whose 4-0 record will be put to the test on Saturday 26 February against All Stars B).
Among those within Rising Stars who are pleased with the fast start is head coach Tricia Skyers-Palacio. She states it remains to be seen if her club can keep the momentum going.
“It’s a little early to tell,” Skyers-Palacio said. “But they’re coming out to play, they’re young and they want it. Time will tell when we get on the court.”
