Home Gas still burning as Coors Light really bubble

The top flight of co-ed softball is often lost in the stories and successes of the lower levels. However a pair of interesting match-ups this week should garner more than a passing glance from onlookers.

It all starts on Tuesday 1 March with perennial powers Home Gas in action. The side takes on fellow A league powers Coors Light Chuggers at 8.15pm on field four of the Field of Dreams facility in George Town. On paper the two sides, who are in the Winter Adult Co-ed Softball League, are going in different directions.

Home Gas had a early slip-up but are now second in the A1 division. They are facing competition from rookie team and fast-pitch softball regulars the Post Net Hurricanes and team Kirk Freeport, last season’s league champions. Coors Light recently got their first victory after suffering five straight losses to open their campaign.

Nevertheless both clubs bring a number of star talents to the field. With Ryan Ebanks and Peter Whittaker starring for Home Gas and Neil Clements and Donnie House on the Coors Light squad, there should be no shortage of athletic plays for fans to take in.

The other contest of note is up on Wednesday 2 March. At 8.15pm on field four the A.L. Thompson Hammers face the Island Taste Hot Stuff. The Hammers head into this week atop the A2 division with only a handful of losses. The likes of Miguel Pitta, Molly-Ann Moore and Jason Giddings have pushed the side to tally 60 runs on the season. Island Taste meanwhile have been off to a slow start as they have allowed 66 runs.

A number of matches are happening outside the A league affairs. Among the teams in action are reigning B league champions A.L. Thompson Drills on Wednesday and C league powers the Billy Bones Jager Bombers on Thursday.
