Local co-ed softball is at the waning stages of its regular season and inter-league play is taking centre stage.
Most of this week’s matches in the Winter Adult Co-ed Softball League are between clubs from two different leagues. Put on by the Cayman Little League, the 15-week competition is already into week eight of play.
Out of all of the inter-league match-ups on offer, the most intriguing might be between the Doghouse Glovernauts and KM Ltd. The squads square off on Thursday 10 March at 8.15pm on field four of the Field of Dreams facility in George Town.
Doghouse head into their contest as one of the last unbeaten sides and are frontrunners in the B league. Guiding Doghouse has been flag football star Jon Pump, who has played softball for a number of seasons. KM Ltd meanwhile are treading water in the A2 division of the A league (the competition’s top flight).
A pair of inter-league match-ups actually take place tonight Tuesday 8 March. At 8.15pm field three sees the Post Net Hurricanes battle the Maples Sluggers while both A.L. Thompson teams (the Hammers and Drills) square off at field four.
Post Net go into their match exceeding expectations with a winning record in the top flight.
Maples meanwhile are struggling mightily in the cellar of the B1 division and are in danger of missing the playoffs. With the ALT sides, the Hammers are looking to prove last year’s form was no fluke with a second place spot in the A2 division while the Drills have fallen from grace as they are just above Maples in the B1 division.
