The Cayman Islands Athletic Association will stage the 2011 Caribbean Utilities Company Championships at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex this Friday starting at 6pm and Saturday at 9am.
CUC, the main corporate sponsors of the CIAA, have sponsored and supported this event which has served as a launching pad for virtually all the Island’s leading athletes for years.
They are all vying for selection for the CARIFTA Games next month in Montego Bay, Jamaica from 23-25 April.
Sprinter Chantelle Morrison, 16, won the girls 100 metres Under-17 gold medal last year when the CARIFTAS were staged here.
She is returning to peak form after a hamstring injury sustained in running the 200m heats.
This weekend spectators can expect to see top quality sprinting, running, throwing and jumping as many athletes try to make the qualifying times for the Games.
On top of that many of Cayman’s best road runners are also competing.
