TeleCayman gets squashed up

The TeleCayman Business League at the South Sound Squash Club started last Thursday and will run until May with the only break coming on 7 April because of the Cedrus Cayman Open.

The format is all teams start in a divisional round robin for the first five weeks and the results of the round robin feed them into a playoff draw.

Many of Cayman’s top players are involved which will help them get sharp for next week’s Cedrus Open at Camana Bay.

The spring league consists of two divisions with six teams in each division. Division one integrates teams representing Ernst & Young, Alphasoft, two teams from Samson & McGrath, AON and the South Sound Squash Club.

In Division Two; TeleCayman, EFG Bank, Admiral, BDO, and two teams from KPMG (Blue and White), will spar off.

Each division plays matches in a round robin format when they will they feed themselves into a playoff draw finishing up on 5 May.

In division one in week one, the South Sound Squash Club played against Ernst & Young, with Amanda Stark, the new club manager and former No.28 in the world, taking a win over Geoff Bakker 3-1 and husband Glenn Stark, the national squash coach beating Ruan De Villiers 3-1.

Alphasoft defeated Samson & McGrath A, 3-2 in a close tie with Warren Urquhart over Shaun Geils, 3-1 and Myron Blair winning over young Julian Jervis, but not without a fight as Jervis managed to take a game.

In the final tie of division one, Samson & McGrath defeated AON 3-0 with Marlene West taking a 3-0 victory over Nick Buckley and Gabee Rabess winning over Janet Sairsingh 3-1.

Division two results did not see a loss of one game by the winning teams, however, there were some great matches played.

EFG Bank defeated TeleCayman 3-0, with Simon Nock over Bob Kanner (3-0) and Simon Cawdery winning over Valeriu Danulescu (3-0).

Admiral showed BDO how it is done with a 3-0 overall victory. Leon den Exter defeated Adil Anwar 3-0 and Alistair Cowper had a good match 3-0 against Iain Robertson.

The final teams to playoff were the two representing KPMG with KPMG Blue winning 3-0. Robert Arther took down Sam Story 3-0 and Faizal Anwar battled Preshdran Odayar with a 3-0 winning result.
