Panthers pounce on sharp Appleby

As March reaches it’s mid-point local youth hockey continues to produce stellar results.

Weeks 14 and 15 of Logic Youth Roller Programme at Kings Sports Centre saw a number of underdog winners across the League.

The big news in the 13 and Under Peewee division is the burst of energy from the Stuarts Panthers and Vampt Oilers in the last two weeks.

Although still sitting at the bottom of the league tables, the two teams have pulled off big victories in recent games.

The Oilers victory came against the KPMG Senators while the Panthers stunned the Appleby Sharks in their high scoring 15-13 contest.

The loss is only the second of the season for the dominant Sharks. The Conyers Canucks rebounded from their trouncing in week 14, with the narrow 9-7 victory of the Senators on Saturday. The win bumps the Canucks into the second seed heading
into week 16.

The spring start has shaken up the Atom Division with the Eats Blazers feeling the biggest pinch. In the last three weeks the team has given up three consecutive losses; also their only three of the season.

The Cedrus Capitals and WestStar Wild have used the opportunity to narrow the gap in the league tables with both squads coming victorious in weeks 14 and 15.

Although still trailing in the league tables, the Animal House Penguins have shown they possess the weapons to defeat any team in the 10U Atom division.

To prove it they can boast the honours of handing the Blazers their first loss. In week 16, the two teams meet again, with the Penguins looking to repeat their Week 12 success and the Blazers hoping to hold onto the top seed in the division.

The XN Financial Flames doused the dms Bruins in a narrow 7-5 finish in Week 15 for the 8U Novice segment, stopping a rampaging Bruins offensive lineup.

The Bruins have had a fantastic Spring start, jumping to number two in the league tables, with their victories in recent weeks.

Not to out-do the other divisions, the Walkers Blue Iguanas pulled off their underdog victory in week 14, defeating the league leading Flames, 11-6. Coupled with their win over the Dart Ducks, they have improved to number three in the division.

The Logic Youth Roller Hockey League continues with games this Saturday 8am-4:30pm at the Kings Sports Centre. To see the full league schedule visit www.kingssportscentre.com.

In addition to their menu of games this Saturday, the Logic Youth Roller Hockey and C.I. Kings Travel Team fund-raiser kicks off this weekend.

For the next three weeks, league players from across the division will be selling raffle tickets, in the hopes of winning one of three autographed Patrick Kane jerseys of the National Hockey League’s Chicago Blackhawks.

All proceeds from the fund-raiser will go to support both the further development of Cayman youth roller hockey in addition to the C.I. Kings Travel Team who venture to the US to represent the Cayman Islands later this year.

Thanks to the support of the Chicago Blackhawks organization and the Department of Tourism, the grand prize of the fund-raiser is a round-trip trip for four to see a Chicago Blackhawks game during in the 2011-12 season.
