Watts is secure

An interesting club that has flown
under the radar in local softball is The Security Centre. In spite of being new
to the sport, their record indicates they can more than hold their own.

Coming into this week the team sits
in second place in the C2 division of the Winter Adult Co-ed Softball League.
Seven other sides are in the C league of the competition, which is put on by
the Cayman Islands Little League.

Steadying the security company’s
efforts are captain Brad Watts and vice-captain Shayne Howe. Out of the two,
Watts is the more experienced in local softball after playing a number of years
for A league powers such as Home Gas and Kirk Freeport. Howe is a good player
though he took considerable flack for his mishaps in the side’s recent loss to
the previously winless PriceWaterhouseCoopers Scorpions. The pair have
commanded a corporate side featuring the likes of star pitcher Eric Bush, Frank
Brennan and Amy Arnold.

Up next for the group is team HSBC,
the defending C league champions. The bankers have proven, under captain
Jefferson Pouchie, that their championship run was no fluke with a second place
spot in the C1 division. The two squads square off on Wednesday 23 March at
8.15pm on field two of the Field of Dreams facility in George Town.
