For runners and walkers, there will be a chance to double-dip this weekend.
On Saturday, as part of St.Ignatius Catholic School’s 40th Anniversary celebrations, a 4040 meter fun run/walk will be conducted. For a mere $5 entry fee, everyone can join the action. The 2.5–mile loop course will begin and end at Loyola Hall at the school.
Refreshments will be provided and various prizes will be awarded, including one for the best 1971 outfit.
Registration is open from 6am at the school on the day. On Sunday, there may not be a billion persons performing A Billion Acts of Green, but the perennially popular Earth Day 5k Run/Walk is certain to draw a large field.
Under the aegis of the National Trust of the Cayman Islands, sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers and organised by the Phoenix Athletic Club, the event offers an outstanding opportunity to support the local ecological movement.
Participants will follow a 3.1-mile route starting from Dart Park toward George Town, passing several sites of historical interest before returning to the park.
A $25 entry fee for celebrants aged 12 and over, with a $15 charge for those younger, provides all in the crowd with an event shirt, refreshments and opportunities to obtain random prizes.
Registration for the Earth Day 5K can be made at the National Trust Office through Friday at the National Trust Office in Dart Park on South Church Street from 9am to 5pm. Saturday registration is from 9am to noon at the Trust Office.
There will be no race day registration.
