Logan’s hustling helps Stars shine

For the second straight year the All Stars B netball team are playing for hardware. Like last season, the group of youngsters can thank their attacking players like Tishelle Logan.

All Stars B, sponsored by Cayman National Bank, took down rivals Rising Stars B 32-12 last Saturday at the netball courts at Truman Bodden Sports Complex. The contest was part of the semi-finals for the Cayman Islands Netball Association 2011 open league.

All Stars were in control of the match from the start as shooters Liana Benjamin and Logan were on point. Defensively the side showcased a new look as Renee Lindo and Whitney General were unavailable. Instead the trio of Merary Eden, Taneka Ebanks and Taneka McLaughlin hampered most offensive efforts steadied by Letanya Thompson and Alexis Carias of Rising Stars.

With the win All Stars B will compete for the consolation trophy. Their opponents will be Roma B, who took down Unity A in the semis, on Thursday 14 May at Truman Bodden. Last season All Stars won the division two title.

In fact the finals next month will be a complete All Stars-Roma affair. All Stars A punched their ticket to the final with a narrow 33-29 victory over Rising Stars A. The game was close throughout and timely shooting was the difference.

Leading the All Stars offence was Stacy Reid-Satahoo. The starting Goal Attack was simply on fire, as she made shot after shot in the contest. Reid-Satahoo had help from Goal Shooter Pauline Bodden and Wing Attack Adena Miller, who turned back the clock and made athletic, sharp passes.

Even though Rosemarie Wilson and company lost, Rising Stars A still have another match to play. The side is in the third place contest against fellow semi-final loser Maples and Calder. That match, along with Rising Stars B against Unity A, takes place Thursday 5 May.
