East End keep slamming run

Mother’s Day may be this weekend but a number of sports events are taking place. Among them is local dominoes.

The next round of matches in the 2011 Cayman Islands Domino Association takes place this Sunday 8 May. A pair of games will take place throughout the evening starting from 2.30pm. Kelly’s bar in West Bay sees Kelly’s All Stars face East End All Stars while Archie’s bar in George Town features team Archies against Singh’s Roti Shop.

Heading into those contests the talk of the league remains East End. Team captain Billy McLaughlin has kept his squad unbeaten at 12-0 and the side has 60 points on the season. Among the star players for the side this year are Brainard, Fred and Al McLaughlin who are part of the team’s core known as the ‘McLaughlin connection.’

Hanging on to second place is Island All Stars with 50 points. Derek Elliot Senior, Marcia Myles and company have produced a 10-4 record and are fresh off a 21-point victory over DLK bar (formerly Buttonwood) last Sunday. Tied for third place are team Archies and DLK based at Dump Road bar. Both have 40 points with Archies having a 8-4 record compared to DLK’s 8-5 mark.

The bottom four offer their own level of intrigue. Kelly’s are hanging on to fifth place with 25 points. Edrick Vernon and company have seen the club produce a 5-8 mark. Their last result was a 46-point victory over Meringue Town last Sunday.

Singh’s Roti Shop are in sixth position with 20 points thanks to a 4-9 mark. Team Helium, in spite of talents like Sheena Taylor and Kristin Williams, are 3-9 and in seventh with 15 points. In last place is Meringue Town at 2-12 with 10 points.
